The New York Times (no linkage for them!) did something really stupid of late: they started charging for access to their most popular content. There are all sorts of reasons why this is a terrible business model (makes their site less attractive, thus able to generate less ad revenue), but here's the biggest reason: most of that content is in the form of their Op-Ed columnists. Guess what? They're syndicated. That means they show up on other newspapers' web sites, within a week or so.
