Beer & Beef
What could possibly be better than drinking a good beer? Cooking with a good beer!
Recently I made one of my few tried-and-true slow cooker recipes. (I am always hoping to increase my Crock Pot repertoire!) It's called Spicy Brisket and it makes a tender and flavorful roast with hardly any effort.
The beer I used this time is our seasonal favorite, Frederick Brewing Company's Wild Goose SnowGoose from Frederick, Maryland. It's wonderful for drinking and cooking. We hadn't been able to find SnowGoose for the past couple of years, so we were delighted to rediscover it in time for the holidays.
Spicy Brisket
Recipe from Paige's Mom
3 lbs. lean beef brisket (chuck roast, pot roast, etc.)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 sliced onion
1 stalk celery, chopped
1/2 cup chili sauce (or catsup with chili powder)
1 can or bottle beer
Place beef in slow cooker. Add salt and everything through the chili sauce. Pour the beer over. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until tender. Remove beef from the pot and slice. (Paige's note: it is so tender it pretty much breaks up on its own, so I just served the pieces.) Skim fat off juices and serve juices with the meat.
Makes 5-6 servings.
Goes very well with corn bread!
The brisket crock pot recipe sounds so good, going to have to try that one. Thanks for the post and crock pot recipes.
